Hands On with Yahoo Music's Artist Pages

Looking for a good alternative to your favorite band's sucky Web site? Check out Yahoo Music's new Artist Pages, which pull content from third party services such as Last.fm, Pandora, iTunes, Rhapsody, and YouTube.

Yahoo is calling them Artist Pages, but they're really portals to fairly complete online profiles of your favorite bands. There's the Yahoo content you'd expect--Flickr pictures, music videos, Yahoo News links, and ticket info from Upcoming--but now there are artist radio stations from Pandora and Last.fm, commerce links from Amazon and iTunes, free full-length track streaming from Rhapsody, and artist videos on YouTube.

As is Yahoo's style, it's all AJAX, so you can drag these modules around on the page or even delete them to get the layout just right. If you're signed in to Yahoo Music, it'll remember your layout changes and apply them to all the Artist Pages you visit, and present your customized page the next time you log in to Yahoo Music.

Let's be honest: official Web sites for bands usually suck. There's never enough real info on them, they're usually tough to navigate, and they tend to be slow and dripping with crappy Flash prestitials and transitions. If you're the type of superfan who wants to be able to track your band's online and offline activity from a single Web page, a Yahoo Music Artist Page is probably your best option.
